Rising sign calculator
Your rising sign (ascendant) is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. It colors your first impression, your style and the way you meet someone new. Because the horizon turns through all twelve signs in a day, it needs your birth time and birth place.
What your rising sign means
Your rising sign, or ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. It changes roughly every two hours, which is why this calculator needs your birth time and place. Astrologers read it as your outer style: the first impression you make, the way you walk into a room and how you approach someone new.
In relationships, the rising sign often explains the "I know you" feeling. When a partner's Sun, Moon or Venus touches your ascendant, the attraction can feel immediate and physical. It also shapes how you show care day to day: a Virgo rising helps in practical ways, a Leo rising shows love through warmth and attention.
Don't know your exact birth time?
Check a birth certificate, a hospital record or a family baby book. Even a time within half an hour usually gives the right rising sign, unless you were born close to a sign change. If you can't find one, the Moon sign and Venus sign calculators still work from your birth date.
Rising sign compatibility
Your rising sign is one layer of birth chart compatibility. To see how your ascendant interacts with a partner's Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars, compare both charts in a synastry chart, or browse sun sign compatibility for all 78 pairings.
